Record breaking year for Skipton Swimarathon

The 38th Skipton Swimarathon has raised a record-breaking total exceeding £50,000 and the number of participants was up from 1,540 in 2013 to 1,700 this year.

Swimmers from age three upwards took part in the five day event which included school and corporate teams, aquafit sessions and friends and family teams. All funds raised will be split equally between this year’s beneficiaries, Autism Guernsey and the CI Air Search.

Skipton Swimarathon is organised jointly by the Lions Club of Guernsey and Guernsey Round Table, and is sponsored by Skipton International. The event took place at Beau Sejour over five days from 8th October and further funds were raised by the At Large events which included hundreds of pupils from Les Beaucamps, St Sampsons, Le Murier and The Grammar School swimming in their own school pools.

Steve Hogg, Chairman of the Skipton Swimarathon, said: “We are very pleased to have smashed our previous years’ totals making the 38th Skipton Swimarathon such an enormous success. The efforts of hundreds of swimmers has resulted in significant donations to our beneficiaries and on behalf of the organizing committee I’d like to extend our thanks to each participant, to Beau Sejour for hosting the event and to each school which took part in the At Large events. The hard work by the organising committee throughout the year has certainly paid off, and we are very grateful to event sponsors Skipton International for their ongoing support which goes beyond expectations and adds real value to our organizing committee.”

Jim Coupe, MD of Skipton International added: “The enthusiasm shown by everyone who took part made this year very special in itself, but to have topped previous years’ total is a really wonderful result for Autism Guernsey and the CI Air Search. Skipton International is pleased to support this community centric annual event which draws out the best in Islanders and is a real credit to Guernsey. Congratulations to all involved and we very much look forward to working towards building on this success next year.”

A presentation evening will take place on Thursday 23rd October at 18:00 at Beau Sejour, when over 30 trophies, including for the first time a Media Cup, will be presented to reward a host of achievements including most funds raised and corporate trophies.

All further sponsorship funds should be paid into the Skipton Swimarathon account at HSBC, St Peter Port.
