Skipton International brings industry together to explore ways of simplifying Guernsey’s home buying process
Skipton International has hosted a cross-industry workshop bringing together representatives from Guernsey's banking, housing, government, property and legal sectors to explore opportunities to simplify the house-buying journey.
Participants included representatives from Skipton, Barclays, Butterfield, Savills, SPF, Swoffers, Ogier, Carey Olsen, Oracle Finance and the States of Guernsey.
Discussions centred on reducing duplication, improving communication, and exploring how trusted data and digital solutions could support smoother property transactions.
As one of Guernsey's leading mortgage lenders, Skipton International works closely with homebuyers, property professionals and intermediaries across the island. Through those relationships, the bank sees first-hand the challenges that can arise throughout the home-buying process and the impact they can have on customers.
Charlotte Dunsterville, Chief Commercial Officer at Skipton International, said:
"Buying or selling a home is one of the most significant moments in many people's lives, but we know the process can sometimes feel complex and difficult to navigate. That's why we brought together people from across the property sector, to share perspectives, identify common challenges, and explore opportunities to improve the experience for islanders.
"As a mortgage lender, we see first-hand the challenges that can arise throughout the home-buying journey. This workshop was an opportunity to look beyond individual parts of the process and focus on how industry partners can work together to support smoother transactions and better outcomes for homebuyers. It reflects Skipton International's ongoing commitment to supporting homeownership in Guernsey and the island's housing market."
Deputy Steve Williams, President of the Committee for Housing, said:
"I would like to thank Skipton International for bringing together such a broad range of people from across Guernsey's housing and property sector.
"These are important conversations for the island. Housing is one of the most significant issues facing Guernsey and improving the experience of buying and selling a home forms part of the wider discussion about how we support better outcomes for our community.
"No single organisation can solve these challenges alone, so opportunities like this, where industry, government and professional partners can come together to share insight and explore practical improvements, are extremely valuable."
Key themes from the session will be reviewed, with the aim of identifying practical recommendations for further consideration.
