Make a splash at the Skipton Boxing Day Dip!

Skipton International, is once again, partnering up with the Guernsey Cheshire Home to sponsor the highly anticipated annual Boxing Day Dip.

Over 3,000 swimmers turned out on Cobo beach last year, many in fancy dress. The organisers gave out thousands of mince pies, kindly donated by CiMandis, with mulled wine and hot drinks on offer. Branded hats were also sold to aid the fundraising efforts.

All funds raised go towards the upkeep of the Guernsey Cheshire Home, where annual costs are currently in excess of £1million. There are currently 12 full time residents and a number of respite visitors, all managing the challenge of severe physical disability aged from 23 to in the 80s. There are also five women aged between 20 -30 who come in for respite and day visits.

The home provides full time care for local residents suffering from many severe physical disabilities including multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease, spinal injuries, arthritis, and the devastating effects of permanent paralysis.

With no States’ funding, or support from the Leonard Cheshire Home group, Guernsey’s home is entirely reliant on fund raising and donations.

Skipton International has a proud history of supporting local community events such as the Boxing Day Dip. It is well-known for supporting the Skipton Swimarathon each year and many other community events that benefit the Bailiwick.

Jim Coupe, Chief Executive Officer at Skipton International, said: “As a local bank, Skipton is proud to support events such as the Boxing Day Dip, making a real difference to the community. We all respect the fantastic work done at the Guernsey Cheshire Home and can’t wait to participate in this year’s Dip.”

Rob Shepherd from Guernsey’s Cheshire Home commented:

“The Skipton Boxing Day Dip has become something of a Guernsey tradition and the sight of 3,000 swimmers running towards the sea in their brightly coloured hats is quite something. We are thrilled that Skipton continues to partner with us, and, with their valuable support, we look forward to raising much-needed funds for the Cheshire Home.”

The Skipton Boxing Day Dip will take place at Cobo Beach on Tuesday 26 December at 10:30am. Swimmers are requested to be ready on the beach no later than 10:20am for the starting claxon. There will be volunteers with buckets for cash donations and also a number of credit card stations will be available. It is hoped that each participant will donate a minimum of £5, making a substantial amount of money for the home.
