Overview
We are seeking a strategic and experienced Senior Risk Manager to lead the development and implementation of our risk management framework. This pivotal role will ensure robust oversight of credit and operational risk across the business, providing expert insights and recommendations to senior leadership and stakeholders. You will play a key role in shaping the organisation’s risk culture, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and driving continuous improvement in risk practices.

As a senior leader, you will manage a high-performing team, contribute to strategic planning, and ensure the delivery of accurate and timely risk reporting to the Board and relevant committees. Key Accountabilities

  • Develop and maintain the business’s risk management framework, policies, controls, and lending policy.
  • Provide strategic risk insights and recommendations to senior leadership and stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with industry and regulatory standards across credit and operational risk.
  • Lead the production of risk analysis and reports for Management Committee, Board, and Retail Credit Committee.
  • Oversee ICAAP and Reverse Stress Testing in collaboration with Finance.
  • Maintain the Key Risk Profile and Business Risk Appetite.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of risk issues, exposures, and mitigation efforts.
  • Lead scenario planning, stress testing, and contingency planning activities.
  • Foster a strong risk culture and deliver ongoing risk training and awareness programmes.
  • Provide independent oversight and challenge to the first line of defence.
  • Conduct regular risk audits and assessments, and support business continuity planning.
  • Lead and manage the Risk Management Team, supporting their development and performance.
  • Collaborate with regulatory bodies and ensure timely reporting of risk-related matters.
  • Support customer strategy by ensuring appropriate outcomes and excellent service delivery.
  • Drive change initiatives and process improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Ensure adherence to data integrity, IT security, and compliance policies.
  • Monitor and report on Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) and Risk Appetite Statement.
  • Support the assessment of new products, services, and change initiatives from a risk perspective.
  • Champion the organisation’s values and behaviours, promoting a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

Requirements

Essential

Qualifications & Experience

  • Proven track record of achieving results, including working towards a relevant professional qualification.
  • Degree-level education or equivalent professional/vocational training.
  • Experience working in a Risk function (1st or 2nd line) within a Financial Services organisation.
  • Experience in people management and team leadership.

  • Strong ability to engage, influence, and collaborate with senior stakeholders.
  • Effective coaching and team/resource management skills.
  • Ability to identify and document risks and recommend appropriate controls.
  • Analytical skills to interpret complex business information and produce clear management reports.

Knowledge

  • In-depth understanding of operational risk management tools, techniques, and regulatory requirements.
  • Working knowledge of Credit and Operational Risk Frameworks in Financial Services.

Desirable

Qualifications & Experience

  • Professional qualification in risk management and/or accountancy.
  • Experience participating in risk committees within a Financial Services organisation.

Skills

  • Experience in planning, managing, and evaluating change projects.
  • Process evaluation and improvement skills (e.g. LEAN methodology).

Knowledge

  • Understanding of other risk types and their relationship to Credit and Operational Risk.
  • Knowledge of Operational Risk Capital calculation and ICAAP processes including stress testing and scenario analysis.
